Every trek with Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST) helps fund projects in the Makalu Arun region of eastern Nepal. Our projects are paid for by MAST’s profits and by donations from trekkers, and they are run locally by people who know the community’s needs.

Food Support for Manakamana Elderly Home

The challenge

Manakamana Elderly Home in Khandbari is home to 35 elderly people, almost all women between 60 and 90 years old. Many came from distant villages after family difficulties. They rely on small donations from visitors to the nearby temple, which are often not enough to buy food.

"Food

How we help

  • MAST regularly provides rice, lentils, oil and other food supplies to the home. [Adjust to what you actually give.]

  • Through GlobalGiving, people around the world can donate to keep this support going.

  • Trekkers are welcome to visit the home after their trek. [Confirm that visits are welcome.]

    How Your Trek Helps

When you book a trek with MAST, [__% of our profit / a fixed contribution per trek] goes directly to these projects. It’s listed as “contribution to the company’s community project” in every trek cost.

You also help by staying in local tea houses and hiring local porter-guides, so your money stays in the community.
