Welcome to Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST), a government-registered, and licensed nonprofit distributing social trekking company established in 2010 in Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal.
Through the company we organize, coordinate, and promote community friendly tea house social trekking program around Mt. Makalu Arun Valley region of Eastern Nepal. With MAST you will have the opportunity to not only enjoy trekking socially but also study and experience authentic local culture and support local communities.
We offer you well-experienced local porter guides who carry your luggage and lead your trek. You stay at local tea houses homestays or local lodges paying directly for your food and accommodation services to your local service providers.
Our Social Trek program involves trekking through scenic and diverse landscapes of Nepal. Trekking routes can range from easy to challenging, varying level of knowledge and lifelong experience.
We employ well experienced professional local porter guides who are knowledgeable about the trekking route, local flora, fauna, and culture lead the treks ensuring the safety of the group.
Our accommodation options can vary, ranging from camping under the stars to staying in local teahouses or home stays or guesthouses or lodges what is available along the trekking route.
We emphasize giving back to the local communities. This might involve the guests participating in community service projects, supporting local schools or non-government organization etc.
Our programs include the guests’ interactions with local communities to learn about their customs, traditions, and ways of life. This involve visiting local villages, participating in cultural events etc.
Besides the planned activities the guests will have opportunity to utilize their free time to walk and explore local villages or community, meet local people independently, reflect, or simply relax.
All the social trekking programs of Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST) are led by knowledgeable local porter guides who are well familiar with local geography, plants animals, and people. With limited English-speaking abilities, they are honest, strong, well equipped, can carry you when necessary, and are able and try their best to make your trekking successful. A porter guide carries your 15-20kg luggage and leads your trek managing your overnight stays food and accommodation at local tea houses homestays, lodges, or tents.
