The SESF Foundation established MAST in 2010 with a mission to make sure every trekking program supports the people living in the mountains. When you trek with us, you are more than just a tourist. You are a partner who helps the villages in the Makalu and Arun Valley region of Nepal

How MAST Began
In 2010, the SESF Foundation committee met at its office to discuss and find a way about how we can raise fund for the Foundation. We had noticed that many trekkers had been trekking through beautiful villages. But they used to stay in tents and have their own caried food without spending any money in the local community. As a result of this the local people did not get any benefit from tourism.We asked ourselves: “Can we organize trekking in a different way that helps our local people?”
We talked to a legal expert in Khandbari about starting a social tourism business. He suggested us to create a social trekking company that gives back.Finally, we decided to establish Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST). Our goal slogan was Makalu Trekking for Social Impact. – a way for travelers to see the mountains while helping local families.
Our Success Today:
Today, MATS is a fully government-registered and licensed, locally established non-profit distributing social Trekking agency in Nepal. We are proud to have successfully organized over 60 groups from all over the world.

- Giving Back: Some of our guests are also interested to volunteer in our schools or villages during their trip with us.
