Makalu View Trek Overview

Makalu View Trek is a short yet captivating journey, among the Makalu Arun Valley Trekking routes, situated along the path to Makalu Base Camp.

Makalu View Trek route is the easiest one and suitable for those who are interested in observing the scene of Mt. Makalu but have limited time or are unable to trek up to Makalu Base camp.

The route offers the scene of  Mt.Makalu (8,463m) and neighboring peaks, including the majestic Mt. Chamlang (7,319m), set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Himalayas.

Since there are teahouses available throughout the trekking route,  no need to worry about food and accommodation.

Makalu View Trek Detail Itinerary

Begin your journey with a daily flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, either with Buddha Air or Yeti Air, a 30-minute trip. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly greeted by MAST staff. Take a 15-minute jeep ride to Khandbari and check into a hotel room for some rest. Explore the local bazaar area, where you can purchase any necessary items. Meet your porter guide, who will be introduced to you, and spend the night at the Khandbari hotel

After your breakfast 8 am, start your 4-5 hour’s trek. Walk slowly along the motor able road through the picturesque villages Manebhangyang (1,160m), Arunthan (1,280m), Sekaya, Bhotebas (1,730m), and Gogane and Chichila in the eveningfor your overnight stay there.

After having your morning meal follow the trail as it takes you through the charming villages of Sagrate (1,920m), Hururu (1,975m), Deaurali (2,100m), and Mude, before finally reaching Num. The trek, which takes approximately 3-4 hours, will come to an end at Num, where you will find one of the best tea houses for an overnight stay.

This day you explore Num and its surroundings. Visit the secondary school there. If you are interested you can embark on a 2-hour trek down to Arun Dobhan to see the Arun 3rd Hydropower construction project. In the evening, make your way back to Num and spend another night at the same tea house

On this day you explore Khanbari market, purchase some local product as a souvenir. Also you have time to visit any one school or hospital or any one project being supported our company.

This day is spent exploring Khanbari Market and buying souvenirs made locally. You also have the opportunity to visit any hospital, school, or project that our organization supports

Get ready to go to Tumlingtar airport after eating breakfast at your accommodation. There will be a Jeep waiting to welcome you. Take a jeep and go to the airport in fifteen minutes. Once you’ve checked in, bid your corporate personnel farewell and relish your journey to Kathmandu.

The price you pay us includes:

The following are not included in the price:

  • Nepal entry visa fees are USD 30 for 15 days and USD 50 for 30 days
  • Kathmandu hotel room charge including breakfast, lunch dinner.
  • Kathmandu -Tumlingtar -Kathmandu Airfare cost
  • Khandbari Hotel breakfast, Lunch, Dinner charge.
  • Local tea house or homestay food and accommodation cost throughout the trekking route has not been included in the total trekking pckage cost. Your meals and accommodation will be your responsibility. You pay directly to your service providers from your pocket.
  • Alcoholic, hot and cold drinks, hot water, hot and cold showers.
  • Personal expenses include laundry, telephone calls, sweets, snacks, beverages, bar bills, and camera battery charging
  • Personal trekking gear and equipment cost like a robust sleeping bag, trekking pole, headlight, eyeglasses, medical kits etc
  • Tips for a porter guide.

  • Other personal expenditure like laundry, alcoholic cold drinks, hot showers, etc.

Question 01: Can I customize this trek program as per my requirement?

Yes. You can if you need. No problem. For your customization facilitation we send you a spreadsheet file to your mail id. There you add or remove some days or your activities or more service you need and send us for our information. After we finalize the detail itinerary, we calculate the total cost you need to pay us and send you for your consideration.

Question 02: What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are no shower facilities.

Question 03: Are there ATMs on this trekking route?

No. There are  ATMs around  Khandbari area. You can draw enough cash there.  Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. 

Question 04: What about internet access?

The Internet can be accessed away around  Khandbari Area.  However sometimes, there might be some technical problems. 

Question 5: My flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar cancelled because of bad weather. And I could not find a flight ticket for the next day. What Can I do to travel from Kathmandu to Khandbari?

Fly to Biratnagar from Kathmandu at 7am, 11 am, 12 pm, or 2 pm (a 30-40 minute flight). Upon landing at Biratnagar airport, head to the main road and take an express bus to Dharan (fare of Rs.120 per person, 1 hour of travel time). From the Dharan bus station, go to the Dharan-Khandbari jeep counter. You can call us from there if necessary, but keep in mind that a jeep will only leave Dharan once it is fully loaded with 10 passengers. To ensure your travel, consider reserving a jeep to Khandbari (Rs.10000). Otherwise, you will have to spend the night at a hotel in Dharan and take a bus or jeep to Khandbari the next day (6-8 hours of travel time, Rs. 1000 for jeep/bus fare).
