Sabha Pokhari Pilgrimage Trek Overview

Sabha Pokhari Pilgrimage Trek between Makalu Arun Valey Trekking is one of the most sacred and at the same time most difficult treks.

Sabha Pokhari (4200m), a sacred natural pond located in the rural village of Sabha Pokhari in eastern Nepal, has both religious and cultural significance.

In the Dwapar Yug (era), a sage known as “Byas Rishi” is said to have convened an assembly of 8,800 other sages in the middle of a pond and delivered a profound discourse on morality and wisdom. After this event, the pond was named “Sabha Pokhari”, meaning “Meeting Pond” in Nepali.

It is believed that bathing in Sabha Pokhari can grant wishes. Newlyweds often visit the pond, have a holy bath and pray for the blessing of the child. The place becomes a busy pilgrimage site every year from Nag Panchami to Janai Purnima (August 1 to August 15).

Apart from its religious significance, Sabha Pokhari serves as an excellent trekking destination. The journey starts from Khandbari and travels to Barabis by jeep. Real trekking from Barabis, Phakuwa, Selele, Dharma Dwar and finally reaching Sabha Pokhari.
Through Sabha Pokhari Pilgrimage Trek, we can also enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Makalu in the north and Mount Kanchenjunga in the east.
Alternatively, one can reach the place by walking through Chauki, Gufa Pokhari and Milke Danda from Tehrathum. Whether you are looking for spiritual fulfillment or a trekking adventure, Sabha Pokhari offers a unique and rewarding experience.

Since there are no tea houses available along the route, we will have to carry tents as well as other kitchen utensils and cooking fuel.
