Overview

Makalu View Trek, is a short yet captivating journey, among the  Makalu Arun Valley Trekking routes,  situated along the path to Makalu Base Camp.

The route is the easiest one and suitable for those who are interested in observing the scene of Mt. Makalu but have limited time or are unable to trek up to Makalu Base camp.

The route offers the scene of  Mt.Makalu (8,463m) and neighboring peaks, including the majestic Mt. Chamlang (7,319m), set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Himalayas.

Since there are teahouses available throughout the trekking route,  no need to worry about food and accommodation.

Itinerary

Begin your journey with a daily flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, either with Buddha Air or Yeti Air, a 30-minute trip. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly greeted by MAST staff. Take a 15-minute jeep ride to Khandbari and check into a hotel room for some rest. Explore the local bazaar area, where you can purchase any necessary items. Meet your porter guide, who will be introduced to you, and spend the night at the Khandbari hotel

After your breakfast 8 am, start your 4-5 hour’s trek. Walk slowly along the motor able road through the picturesque villages Manebhangyang (1,160m), Arunthan (1,280m), Sekaya, Bhotebas (1,730m), and Gogane and Chichila in the eveningfor your overnight stay there.

After having your morning meal follow the trail as it takes you through the charming villages of Sagrate (1,920m), Hururu (1,975m), Deaurali (2,100m), and Mude, before finally reaching Num. The trek, which takes approximately 3-4 hours, will come to an end at Num, where you will find one of the best tea houses for an overnight stay.

This day you explore Num and its surroundings. Visit the secondary school there. If you are interested you can embark on a 2-hour trek down to Arun Dobhan to see the Arun 3rd Hydropower construction project. In the evening, make your way back to Num and spend another night at the same tea house

On this day you explore Khanbari market, purchase some local product as a souvenir. Also you have time to visit any one school or hospital or any one project being supported our company.

This day is spent exploring Khanbari Market and buying souvenirs made locally. You also have the opportunity to visit any hospital, school, or project that our organization supports.

Get ready to go to Tumlingtar airport after eating breakfast at your accommodation. There will be a Jeep waiting to welcome you. Take a jeep and go to the airport in fifteen minutes. Once you’ve checked in, bid your corporate personnel farewell and relish your journey to Kathmandu.

FAQs

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
