Volunteering Opportunities in Nepal

Want your trip to Nepal to leave something good behind? After your trek, you can spend a day or more volunteering in and around Khandbari with Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST). We connect you with local schools, health posts and community projects we already support, so your time and donations go where they are really needed.

5 Ways to Volunteer with MAST

 1.Visit a Local School

Spend time at a village school near Khandbari. Meet teachers, join a class, share your experience and encourage students to keep learning. Teachers welcome new ideas for making lessons more engaging.

2. Donate School Supplies

Help children from the poorest families with notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, school bags, uniforms, shoes and socks. You can also donate teaching materials such as world maps and globes. We help you buy them locally in Khandbari, which supports local shops too.

3. Support a Health Post

Visit a local health post or hospital, meet the staff and learn about healthcare in rural Nepal. If you’d like to donate medical equipment or supplies, we first ask the staff what they need, so your donation is truly useful.

4. Promote a Cleaner Environment

Sponsor dustbins for a school and help students learn about waste separation and keeping their village clean. It’s a simple project with a lasting impact.

5. Visit the Elderly Home

Spend time with the 35 elderly residents of Manakamana Elderly Home, whom MAST supports with food. A visit, a shared meal or a donation of food supplies means a great deal to them.

Volunteering Responsibly

To protect the children and communities we work with, we ask all volunteers to:

  • Visit schools only with a MAST staff member or teacher present
  • Ask permission before taking photos of children, and never share their full names or locations online
  • Give donations through the school, health post or MAST, not directly to individual children
  • Respect local customs, dress modestly and follow teachers’ guidance
