Kanchenjunga Region
Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the world's third-highest mountain, stands on Nepal's far-eastern border. The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek passes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, with Limbu and Sherpa villages, glaciers and very few trekkers. It is a restricted area, so a special permit and a licensed guide are required. The Lumba Sumba Pass Trek crosses from the Kanchenjunga region west towards Makalu. These are long, remote treks for fit and experienced walkers.
